BMA checks night venues on the first day of opening till 4 a.m.

BANGKOK Metropolitan Administration (BMA) launched an inspection of night venues permitted to stay open till 4 a.m. from today (Dec. 15) onwards with 146 out of total 207 still operating in 33 of 50 metropolitan districts and Huay Kwang topping the list with the largest number, Naewna newspaper said.

Pol. Gen. Adis Ngamjitsuksri, adviser to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, heads the survey that is starting at Khao San road from 1.30 p.m.

BMA database shows that of 207 night venues in 33 districts that can now stay open till 4 a.m. 73 are in the Ratchada, RCA and Patpong zone with eight located in hotels and 134 outside this zone with 24 being within hotels.

However, the latest check shows of these 207 entertainment venues 146 are still operating, three are closed for renovation and 58 have permanently shut shop.

Huay Kwang has the most such night venues, with 33 of total 39 still operating but six closed; followed by Din Daeng with 31 and 14 still open while 17 now closed; Bang Rak with 21 and 20 open but one closed; Wattana with 21 and 16 open but five closed; plus Khlong Toei with 11 and nine open but two closed.

An earlier inspection of these 146 pubs and bars still operating showed that 145 met the legal requirements but one did not while fire escape was usable at 144 of them but defective at two.

The two night venues that failed to measure up on both points, both located in the Din Daeng area, have been told to quickly renovate as legally required.

All entertainment spots in the premises of hotels in all the provinces nationwide may legally open until 4  a.m. as from today onwards, a government spokesperson said earlier this week.

Nevertheless, the extended opening hours for entertainment venues outside of the premises of hotels will be allowed by law only for those in Bangkok and four provinces with major tourist spots whilst all others elsewhere will not be granted such an extension.

Those entertainment spots in the capital, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chonburi which geographically covers Pattaya and Samui Island off Surat Thani, either within the premises of hotels or without, may legally open until 4 a.m. from today onwards
