PHEU THAI MP PATTANA Sappaso was today (Dec.15) charged with breaking the election law by posting content of a vote-wooing campaign speech online during prohibited hours ahead of last May’s general election.
The Election Commission pressed the criminal charge against the Pheu Thai MP of Sakon Nakhon who had allegedly posted a 4.50-minute video clip on his ruling party’s campaign speech on social media whilst all electoral activities had been prohibited by law from 6.00 p.m. on the day before the May 14 election.
Though Pattana had contended that he had not done so himself and not been aware of anyone who may have posted the campaign speech online during the prohibited hours, the commissioners have spurned it as a lame excuse.
If the Election Commission’s lawsuit against Pattana for breaking the election law is eventually accepted by court, he could possibly be ordered to immediately stop performing as an elected lawmaker pending a court verdict.
And if the Pheu Thai MP is finally found guilty as charged, he could immediately be deprived of his MP status, thus resulting in a by-election to find his replacement for one of the northeastern constituencies which he has been representing at parliament.
