A TRIO OF THAI SANG THAI MPs are going to be questioned by their opposition party for ironically casting yea votes for the Pheu Thai-led government’s 2024 budget bill.
Thai Sang Thai leader Sudarat Keyurapan confirmed today (Jan.6) that the three “renegade” Thai Sang Thai MPs will be interrogated by the party’s ethics committee following yesterday’s surprise event in which the trio cast yea votes alongside coalition MPs for the 3.48 trillion baht budget bill.
That was obviously against the Move Forward-led opposition bloc’s joint resolution to cast nay votes against it, according to the Thai Sang Thai leader.
There were an overwhelming total of 311 yea votes for the budget bill to sail through the House in the approval-in-principle stage following three long days of floor debate, compared to 177 nay votes.
The trio of “renegade” Thai Sang Thai MPs, namely Supaporn Salabsri of Yasothorn, Rang Thurapon of Udorn Thani and Adisak Kaeomungkunasap of Udorn Thani, could possibly be ousted from the opposition party and legally obliged to find another camp to belong to within a 60-day period.
One other opposition MP who cast a yea vote for the government’s budget bill is identified as Surathin Picharn of the one-MP New Democracy.
Notably, Chart Thai Pattana secretary-general/MP Prapat Pothasuthon abstained from voting whilst nine other Chart Thai Pattana MPs including party leader Varawut Silpa-archa cast yea votes, given the fact that his camp is one of the Pheu Thai-led coalition partners.
