Young foreign man found hanged at Koh Samui

THE BODY of a young Ukrainian man was found mysteriously hanged with his hands tied behind his back at a remote durian orchard on Koh Samui last evening, Amarin TV said this morning (Jan. 25).

Pol. Col. Denduang Thongsrisuk, superintendent of Bo Phut police station, and his team together with forensic officers, a doctor from Koh Samui Hospital and rescuers, went up the steep Tha Sok mountain on four-wheel-drive vehicles to the spot at the durian orchard where the foreign tourist’s body was found hanging from a branch of a tree.

He was wearing a pair of shorts and no shirt but a red T-shirt covered half his face. Cable ties had been used to tie his hands behind his back and a red chair had fallen beneath him.

His decomposed body was taken to Koh Samui Hospital for autopsy and it was estimated that he had been dead for four to five days.

Found nearby was a wallet containing some Thai cash, a passport identifying him as Mr. Dimitro Malokovet, 32, a pair of sunglasses, a wristwatch and some painkillers.

People living on this mountain said the durian orchard where his body was found is right on top and deserted as not many people go there.

However yesterday the orchard owner sent his workers there and upon getting a strong smell found his body so quickly informed police.

Preliminary investigation shows Malogovet was staying at a hotel in Maret subdistrict where other tourists from his country were also staying.

He has been living on Koh Samui for many years now and suffered from depression.

Police are now questioning his friends to find out when he disappeared and with whom.

Additionally the autopsy result is awaited to determine the cause of death but it is still uncertain whether he was hanged or hanged himself, they said.
