A RUSSIAN man was found hanged in a Pattaya forest this morning (Mar. 10) with a surveillance camera clip showing he had walked in there in the dead of the night, TV Channel 7 said.

Pol. Lt. Puttharak Sonkhamhan, deputy inspector at Pattaya City police station, was informed by local residents that a foreigner had been found dead in the grove abutting Thepprasit road running through Soi Thepprasit 9, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, and quickly went to investigate together with Tourist Police officers and Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescuers.

Just 20-30 metres within this forest covering over 20 rai of land, the body of the Russian man, later identified as Mr. Mikhail Sysoev, 34, was found hanged in a kneeling position with the end of the rope tied to a tree.

Found in his pants pocket was a mobile phone while next to him was a bottle of water but he was not carrying any documents.

Mr. Chusak (surname withheld), 46, a local resident, told police that at 8 a.m. a motorcycle taxi rider came to him with a wide-eyed look and said he had found a foreigner’s body in this forest.

They went together to have a look and after getting over the shock of seeing his dead body quickly called the police.

Chusak said foreigners pass through this alley all day long with most of them being Russian. He added that at 9 to 10 p.m. he heard the dogs barking but he did not come out to have a look.

A surveillance camera clip shows that the Russian man had at 3.38 a.m. walked into the forest, with one hand holding the mobile phone with the torch switched on and the other the bottle of water, he walked out again but went back in at 3.39 a.m. and did not return.
