Online gambling websites mount bus advertising in Chiang Rai

SOME ONLINE gambling websites have boldly launched a bus advertising campaign in Chiang Rai city with this leading to a large number of residents complaining but officials have yet to take any action to stop it, Naewna newspaper said today (Mar. 22).

An inspection of Chiang Rai Provincial Bus Terminal No. 1 where around 30 large and small four-wheel buses plus tuk-tuks, or auto rickshaw, were waiting for passengers showed that approximately half of them had posted advertising posters promoting Jun88 online gambling website on their vehicles.

These vinyl posters, approximately 30 inches wide and about 1.30 metres long, were attached to both sides of the vehicle with some having also attached one at the rear.

One of the bus drivers revealed that the going rate is 100 to 150 a month for each poster they display with this being a welcomed additional income because the number of passengers using their service vary.

There is usually a contract for the two parties to sign but in the case of Jun88 this was unavailable but the advertiser who contacted them through a middleman is also paying a higher monthly fee of 200-300 baht per poster.

These advertising posters have been displayed for around 10 days now, he added.

Other drivers said they did not know these posters were advertising online gambling websites because they only show a man holding a football with the text being in English which they cannot read.

When these drivers were informed that these posters are advertising illegal gambling websites some of them removed them from their vehicles.

However others still kept them there because the one-month agreement to display them had not ended,

Nonetheless all of them  said they would remove these ad posters if a government agency told them to do so but as yet no officials had come round to give orders.
