DEPUTY AGRICULTURE & COOPERATIVES Minister Chaiya Phromma was evidently seen watching a live football match in the middle of the House chamber where MPs were debating the 2024 budget bill last night (Mar.21).
The Pheu Thai cabinet member-cum-MP and another Pheu Thai MP were seen seated next to each other in the House chamber watching the live soccer game between Thailand and South Korea national teams via what appeared to be an illegal gambling webpage whilst the second reading of the 3.48 trillion baht budget bill proceeded among other legislators. Chaiya was not available for comment, however.
When asked by reporters about the unbecoming phenomenon in which the deputy agriculture and cooperatives minister was seen watching the live soccer game in the middle of the House chamber at the time of the budget debate, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin sidestepped the question and only said every legislator should have been aware of their legislative duty.
Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra said a warning will be given to the deputy Pheu Thai minister and the other Pheu Thai MP who had evidently done so in inappropriate fashion.
However, Paetongtarn, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra, retorted to the inquiring reporters with a question to which no answer was expected: “Everybody would watch it. Did you watch it, too?”
Pheu Thai secretary-general Sorawong Thianthong said the ruling party will launch an investigation into the event.
