Debris falling from Yellow Line train hits two vehicles, service halted

THE MRT Yellow Line service was temporarily halted for repairs at 9 a.m. this morning (Mar. 28) after parts of a train going from Thanya Park to Paradise Park shopping malls fell down and hit two vehicles running on Srinakarin road below, Amarin TV said.

Prawet police station said they had issued a traffic alert to road users travelling on this route to beware that officials were working on clearing metal scraps that dropped on the road from the above train.

On Jan. 2 this year a wheel of the MRT Yellow Line fell on the bonnet of a taxi on the road below.

Reporters went to check the accident and found the MRT Yellow Line train parked in the middle of the track while officials were collecting pieces that had dropped from the train for several kilometres.

Inquiries revealed that there were still people stuck in the train since 8 a.m. and up to the time the reporters arrived they had not got any assistance. Some officials had come to take photos while other employees were collecting the train’s fallen debris.

An eyewitness said he heard a loud explosion at 8 a.m. but initially did not think it was anything serious. However he was later told by a passing driver that nuts, pieces of plastic and unidentifiable parts had fallen on passing vehicles.

He added that these parts had dropped on the road for several kilometres from the Modernform building onwards.

At that time there were still many passengers stuck in the train but they did not see any officials having come to help them and were concerned about their welfare.

Passengers were urged to check the status of this service before their journey by either doing so on The Skytrains app or inquiring at @pinkyellowline on Line messaging service.
