THE 400-BAHT, DAILY MINIMUM wage is legally effective from today (Apr. 13) for hotel and resort employees in 10 tourism-buzzing areas of Bangkok and the provinces.
Deputy government spokesperson Kharom Ponpornklang confirmed the mandatory, 400-baht minimum wage at hotels and resorts with four-star or higher ratings where a minimum of 50 employees are hired daily is effective from today.
The 10 areas in which those hotels and resorts are located with their hectic tourism-related businesses include those in Bangkok’s Pathumwan and Wattana districts, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Samui Island, Phuket, Chiang Mai City, Hat Yai City, Pang Nga’s Khuek Khak subdistrict, Krabi’s Ao Nang subdistrict and Rayong’s Baan Pae subdistrict.
Kharom advised any employees at those hotels and resorts to immediately petition the Department of Labour Protection & Welfare in case that they be given less than 400 baht in daily minimum wage as earlier mandated by the Minimum Wage Committee.
That compared to the 600-baht, daily minimum wage pledged nationwide by the ruling Pheu Thai during last year’s electoral campaigns.
