TWO Facebook users shared a dash cam video clip showing a foreign man attacking a Phuket tuk tuk driver in a dispute over the fare for a ride from Patong to Karon beach on Apr. 26, 2024, Naewna newspaper said.
The tuk tuk driver, only identified as Abdulloh, had asked for 400 baht for the ride to the unidentified foreign man’s hotel at Karon beach, according to an account of the incident related by his father because he does not speak Thai well with this video clip shared on Hod Chang Changwat Phuket and Oiltuktukpatong Saranate Facebook pages.
However upon getting there he paid 100 baht but then claimed that he either paid 1,000 or 500 baht and wanted the change, the father related in an interview with Hod Chang Changwat Phuket, and upon not getting it he slapped and tried to strangle his son.
The tuk tuk driver and his dad reported the incident to Phuket police and they said to go and tell the foreigner to come to the police station. However when they went to his hotel and asked him to do so, he refused to go meet the police.
Abdulloh’s dad said there have been incidents of foreigners not paying for the ride but this time it was not just that much, he wanted some additional money which could not be tolerated.
