3 Korean men wanted for murder of countryman

POLICE are getting ready to issue arrest warrants for three Korean men in the murder of a countryman with his body with all 10 fingers cut off being found in a 200-litre barrel filled with cement and dumped in reservoir in Chonburi last night, Amarin TV said this afternoon (May 12).

The victim was confirmed to be Mr. Roh Eui Jong, 34, after his sister and a cousin who flew in from South Korea had immediately gone to Makkasan police station together with three South Korean embassy officials for a DNA test this afternoon.

They will be taking the victim’s body back to South Korea for funeral.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Nophasin Pulsawat, deputy chief of Metropolitan Police, said on May 7 Roh’s mother had informed the South Korean embassy that a criminal had called her on her son’s mobile phone and said he had thrown drugs into water causing damage and demanded 3 million baht compensation. The embassy then contacted the police.

Investigation shows that the victim Roh had arrived in Thailand on April 30.

At 4 p.m. on May 2 he was seen walking out of a shopping mall near his hotel. Later at 7 p.m. he hopped on a motorcycle taxi and went to RCA  entertainment zone.

At a little after 2 a.m. May 3, a surveillance camera clip showed a Korean friend getting together with him as he was leaving RCA and the two of them then got into a car where there were two other men within.

It was discovered that this car was rented and driven by Mr. Kim, also a Korean.

From there they drove to a house in Romklao district which Mr. Lee, a Korean, had rented.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Nophasin said it appeared the criminals plotted this crime in advance because all surveillance camera cables around the house had been cut.

Later Kim drove alone from this house to a condo in Sukhumvit area to pick up a suitcase then returned to the house again.

The four of them then drove to a condo on Sukhumvit Soi 77 where the third South Korean criminal, Mr. Run, collected some items which he handed over to those in the car but did not join them as they drove off.

When this car passed Lat Krabang checkpoint there were only three persons in it, the victim Roh, and his killers Kim and Lee.

The car then entered Mapprachan housing estate where Lee had rented a house from May 3 to May 10, with this again showing the crime was planned.

Another surveillance camera clip showed Kim entering a shop at 10 a.m. the next day but he did not buy anything then went back into the house.
