A GERMAN man holidaying in Pattaya fell to his death from the 33rd floor of a luxury hotel last night (June 5) with this being the fourth such death in a month at this seaside city, Thai Rath newspaper said this morning.
At 10 p.m. last night Pol. Maj. Thanya Utthong, an inspector at Pattaya city police station, was informed of a foreigner having plunged to his death at the entrance of a shopping mall-cum-hotel on Beach road and quickly went there with a forensic police officer and some investigators plus Sawang Boriboon rescuers.
This shopping complex-cum-hotel is around 200 metres from the police station and when the police team got there they saw the body of the tourist lying in front of the complex facing the beach with both Thai and foreign tourists standing around looking.
The deceased man was later identified as Mr. Martin Bernard Roeder, 57.
Police did not find any signs of struggle in his room on the 33rd floor but did find medicine for allergy which they kept as evidence.
A shopping mall worker said he was standing in front of the complex and saw the tourist plunging to his death and hitting a potted plant. This shocked him but when he came to his senses he told both Thai and foreign tourists to move away and called the police.
Pol. Col. Navin Therawit, head of Pattaya police station, said his team has carefully collected evidence and is thoroughly investigating the German man’s death but it is assumed by the manner of his death and he had committed suicide.
However an autopsy report is still awaited and his family and others close to him have still to be questioned.
An American man fell to his death from the seventh floor of a hotel in Pattaya on June 4 while a Russian man plunged to his death from the 29th floor of a 35-storey condo the previous day.
On June 2 the body of a young, naked foreign man washed up on Pattaya beach around noon.
