A CAR BOMB exploded in front of police flats at Bannang Sata district, southern Yala province, at 10.30 a.m. this morning (June 30) killing one person and injuring 18 others, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Police from Bannang Sata station, soldiers, rangers, firefighters and rescuers quickly rushed to the scene of the explosion.
It was initially reported that a woman died in the blast and of the 18 persons injured, eight were police officers and 10 civilians but all of them suffered minor injuries.
It is still not possible to identify who this woman is because her body has been badly burnt but an autopsy is underway.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and forensic officers have sealed off the area and are combing it for possible additional bombs which the insurgents could set off again.
It is believed that the bombing is aimed at continuously causing problems by targeting government officials.
