A BIG SEARCH was launched today (July 1) for a young Canadian man missing in southern coastal province Phang Nga who likely drowned while swimming in the sea, Naewna newspaper said.
Phang Nga Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office together with Phuket Charity Foundation and some volunteers went out in a rubber boat to search for the missing tourist, only identified as Mr. Christopher, 21, who had disappeared from his hotel room at Natai beach at 9 a.m. yesterday (June 30).
Earlier Takua Thung District Tourist Assistance Centre followed up on his disappearance by asking people in the area about his whereabouts until reaching a conclusion that he likely drowned while swimming in the sea.
Mr. Samon Saton, head of Phang Nga Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, ordered a team to take equipment and a fast-moving rescue vehicle to help foundation staff and volunteers in searching for the missing tourist but so far they have not found him.
