A TRAILER-TRUCK running along a road in Chaiyaphum lost control after a sedan cut in front without giving a signal and slammed into 10 vehicles waiting at a red light on the other side injuring many people this afternoon (July 8), Naewna newspaper said.
At 4.52 p.m. Pol. Lt. Col.Thitipat Khamransi, superintendent for investigation at Chaiyaphum city police station, was alerted by 191 call service that there was a major accident at Rong Tom intersection, Chaiyaphum-Kaeng Khor road, and quickly rushed there with a police team accompanied by Chaiyaphum Hospital ambulances and Sawang Khun Tham Chaiyaphum rescuers.
At the scene there were many people injured after being trapped in their vehicles that had been hit by the trailer-truck with the driver Mr. Vasna (surname withheld), 52, a resident of Udon Thani waiting there.
He told police that he was driving to Khon Kaen after delivering cassava at Thep Sathit district when a sedan suddenly cut in front without giving a signal. He tried to swerve to avoid hitting this sedan but the trailer skidded and caused a loss of balance and jumping to the other side of the road and hitting vehicles waiting at a red light.
Chaiyaphum Governor Mr. Anant Nagakham came to inspect the accident and also visited those injured.
Pol. Lt. Col.Thitipat and his team took photos of this big accident and will also be going through surveillance camera clips to determine what actually occurred with Vasna taken to the police station for questioning.
