AN ICELANDIC man was found dead at a hotel room in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province today (July 17) in unclear circumstances with police assuming that the alcohol he drank triggered an underlying health condition, TV Channel 7 said this afternoon.
At 11.30 a.m. police at Bang Kaew station were informed of a foreign man dying of unknown causes at this hotel and quickly went there to investigate.
They found the unidentified Icelandic man, 54, lying dead by the side of the bed in his hotel room. There were no injuries on his body and he had been dead for around six to 12 hours.
Police found a large number of liquor bottles and cans of beer and took photos of them as evidence while sending his body to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy.
Hotel staff told police that the deceased man, who checked in around a month ago and was staying alone, usually came down to pay for his room at 10.30 a.m. but when he did not do so today they opened the room with a spare keycard and found him dead.
They had noticed that he regularly drank alcohol.
Police initially assumed that the Icelandic man might have drunk too much alcohol and died due to an underlying disease.
