Couple of AT-6TH light attack aircraft delivered to Wing 41

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

A COUPLE OF BEECHCRAFT/TEXTRON AT-6TH Wolverine light attack aircraft have been recently delivered to Wing 41 in Chiang Mai, said an air force source today (July 18).

A batch of six other AT-6TH turboprop, two-seater aircraft are scheduled to follow the couple of the US-built aircraft of the same type to Wing 41 within next February to make a fleet of eight Wolverine planes purchased for a combined price of 4.31 billion baht. However, the air force had earlier planned to buy a dozen of the AT-6TH light attack aircraft.

The AT-6s to be deployed by the northern air force base are fitted with laser-guided bombs and AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles, among other armaments.

However, the air force’s light attack planes will not only be deployed in combat scenarios but in non-combat missions such as natural disaster relief, wildfire containment and anti-drug trafficking missions in the northern region, the source said.

Wing 41 had decommissioned Aero Vodochody L-39 Albatros trainer/light attack jets a few years earlier. The Czech-built trainer/light attack jets had been deployed by the Chiang Mai air force base for 27 years.
