Global tech chaos hits Thai airports, banks, offices and stores

 

THE GLOBAL IT outage that has led Microsoft Windows users seeing a blue screen, informally called the “Blue Screen of Death”, has also affected Thailand with ground service at airports delayed while employees at some banks and offices were unable to use their computers and even IT payment system at some department stores not processing transactions, Naewna said this evening (July 19).

The worldwide IT chaos appears to stem at least partly from a software update for Microsoft Windows operating systems issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, experts told CNN.

In a Facebook message an official of Airports of Thailand (AOT), which manages the country’s six main airports, asked passengers to cooperate and come to the airport at least four hours before the departure of their flight.

Altogether 11 airlines at Suvarnabhumi Airport have been affected by global tech outage namely Cebu Pacific Air (5J), GoAir (India) (G8), Hong Kong Express Airways (UO), IndiGo Airlines (6E), Jetstar Airways (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K), Scoot  (TR), Spicejet (SG), Thai AirAsia (FD), Thai AirAsia X (XJ) and Norse Atlantic Airways (NO).

Four airlines were affected at Don Mueang Airport namely Thai AirAsia (FD), AirAsia Berhad (AK), Philippines AirAsia (Z2) and Indonesia AirAsia (QZ).

Six airlines were hit in Phuket namely Thai AirAsia (FD), AirAsia Berhad (AK), Firefly Airlines (FY), Scoot Tiger (TR), IndiGo (6E), Jetstar Asia (3K).

The global tech outage also hit one airline in Chiang Mai that is Thai AirAsia (FD), as well as one from Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang Airport also Thai AirAsia (FD), and two in Hat Yai – Thai AirAsia (FD) and Scoot Tiger (TR).
