A YOUNG man changing a flat tyre of his pickup truck on Bang Na-Chonburi expressway inbound to Bangkok was hit and killed by a six-wheel truck at 10.20 a.m. this morning (July 21) and died on the spot, Amarin TV said.
Pol. Col. Preecha Khemsiri, an investigator at Bang Pakong police station, Chacheongsao province, rushed to the scene of the accident together with an ambulance from Bang Pakong Hospital and rescuers from Bang Pakong Rescue Unit.
Parked at the side of the expressway was a white pickup truck with a flat rear tyre and tyre changing tools scattered there while the body of Mr. Theerayuth (surname withheld), 31, who had suffered a fractured skull was towards the front of the vehicle.
His wife and other family members were sitting beside him weeping.
Parked close by was the six-wheel truck which had hit him with the driver, Mr. Metni, 32,who was waiting for the police saying that he was driving to Bangkok but did not see Theerayuth changing the tyre which led to him being hit and flung forward.
Ms. Wari, 62, Theerayuth’s mother, said her son was driving their family to visit relatives in Nakhon Pathom and just five minutes after getting on the expressway, the rear tyre burst.
Without calling the expressway police, her son parked their pickup truck and started changing the tyre with her husband waving to passing vehicles from the rear.
Moments later she heard a loud noise and when she got off to have a look, she found her son dead.
Police will be interrogating both sides in detail again before reaching a conclusion as to what actually happened.
