Body of Chinese tourist who drowned in the sea off Phuket found

PHUKET rescuers today (July 29) found the body of a Chinese tourist who drowned in the sea after ignoring a red flag warning four days ago, Thai Rath newspaper.

The body of Mr. Qin Yuen, 27, was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital with his relatives asked to come and identify him then arrange a funeral.

The young tourist was swept away by waves after not heeding a red flag warning of high surf and/or strong currents at Kata beach on the evening of July 25 with officials searching for his body ever since.

On July 26 the 3rd Naval Area Command sent a helicopter to search for his body at Kata beach and other nearby areas while lifeguards and search teams had also set forth on jet skis and rubber boats to do so but did not see any sign of his body because of strong waves.

The 3rd Naval Area Command together with Kata beach lifeguards and Kusoldham Phuket Foundation rescuers continued their search over the weekend, July 27-28.

It was at 10 a.m. this morning that they found the body of a man wearing a navy blue T-shirt and blue shorts, believed to be the missing tourist, near some rocks on Freedom Beach.
