ALTHOUGH Thai badminton star Kunlavut Vitidsarn, or View, lost to Viktor Alexsen from Denmark in Olympics final men’s singles badminton match last night (Aug. 5), with scores of 11-21 and 11-21, Thai people are still joyous that he is coming home with a silver medal because he did his best, Naewna newspaper said this morning.
View is the current men’s singles World Champion as he won the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships. He was also three-times World Junior champion, winning in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He is nicknamed the “Three-Game God” because his playing style requires him to play three games long and always win in the end, according to Wikipedia.
Axelsen is currently world number two in men’s singles. He is a two-time World Champion, defeating Lin Dan in the 2017 final and View in the 2022 final.
He is also the back-to-back reigning Olympic Champion, defeating Chen Long at the final of the 2020 Olympics and View in last night’s final.
Meanwhile Malaysian shuttler Lee Zii Jia clinched a bronze after a hard fought win over India’s Lakshya Sen.
Thais are happy that View made history by getting the silver medal at the Paris Olympics games. Photos taken by Naewna of the historic match are published here.
