THE PEOPLE’S PARTY PLANS to put forward a motion at parliament to amend a certain organic law of the constitution on political parties to promote legal justice and preclude an arbitrary dissolution of one by court.
People’s MP Parit Wacharasindhu confirmed today (Aug. 10) People’s MPs plan to solicit support from those of other parties for the planned motion to amend the constitution’s organic law pertaining to political parties to the extent that a future dissolution of one by the Constitutional Court be less arbitrary and more acceptable to the accused and general public.
Parit was apparently referring to Wednesday’s questionable dissolution of the Move Forward by the Constitutional Court on charges of undermining rule of the country with campaign-promised moves toward amendment to the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code.
Parit said he believed many MPs of other parties, especially including the Pheu Thai, would sign up for the People’s MPs’ motion at parliament, endorse it during floor debate and cast yea votes for it.
The planned motion, topically viewed as a legislative effort to render justice for any party which could possibly be otherwise dissolved by the arbitrary Constitutional Court, could be deliberated and passed into law as an alternative channel in lieu of moves to amend the lese majeste law per se, according to the People’s MP.
People’s whips will sooner or later consult with their counterparts on the coalition side and opposition bloc in the House of Representatives over a concerted move toward amendment of the organic law on political parties.
A supportive majority of MPs and senators combined, accounting for 347, could effectively turn the planned motion into law.
Out of a total of 500 post-election MPs, only 493 are currently performing, plus another one to be elected in a by-election in Phitsanulok next month, whilst five others, previously belonging to the dissolved Move Forward, have subsequently lost their MP status and one Bhumjaithai MP has been suspended by court from doing legislative duties due to a severe irregularities lawsuit.
