A FOREIGN MAN, believed to be British, has been left with serious injuries after plunging from a Pattaya condo balcony despite an official spending three hours trying to talk him out of taking his own life, TV Channel 7 said this afternoon (Aug. 16).
At 11 a.m. today Pol. Col. Aphinan Boontharat, an investigator at Pattaya City police station, was alerted of a foreigner going to jump from a unit in a luxury eight-storey condo and quickly rushed there with a team of Tourist Police, officials from Land Disaster Prevention Department and rescuers.
At this condo they saw the 40-year-old foreign man, believed to be British, walking around the rear balcony of a sixth floor unit in an agitated manner.
The Land Disaster Prevention Department brought a big air cushion and placed it beneath the balcony with an official trying to coax him for three hours but to no avail.
Just when the official looked away, the foreigner climbed the iron railing and jumped down, hit the air cushion and bounced into the swimming pool.
Rescuers quickly got him out of the pool and found that he had injured his neck, his mouth was torn and teeth broken, there were abrasions on his body and that both his wrists had been slashed with a sharp object.
Police then questioned Mr. Oeaop, 31, a Russian citizen, who said last night he and his Thai girlfriend saw this foreigner sitting in front of a convenience store about 500 metres from their condo with both his wrists cut.
Out of pity they brought him back to their unit to dress his wounds but the foreigner was agitated and kept saying he must die and then tried to kill himself late this morning.
Police said they would have to wait for him to recover before questioning him.
Oeaop was himself in the news last August when his Russian girlfriend fell from the seventh floor balcony of a condo in Sattahip, Chonburi, and died with a similar incident occurring a year and three days later.
