THAI SANG THAI MP Supaporn Salabsri was today (Aug 21) ousted from the opposition party on grounds of severe disciplinary violation following last Friday’s vote for prime minister.
The woman MP of Yasothorn was among six Thai Sang Thai MPs who recently endorsed the naming of de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra for prime minister.
A Thai Sang Thai disciplinary committee, headed by former House speaker/former deputy prime minister Pokin Palakul, has unanimously resolved to oust Supaporn for repeatedly, severely breaking disciplinary rules of the opposition party.
However, the renegade legislator is subsequently obliged to register herself for membership of another party to maintain her MP status in a 30-day period as provided by law.
Pokin’s disciplinary committee had summoned Supaporn for testimony at the party’s headquarters but the woman lawmaker failed to show up, thus prompting the panel to oust her with immediate effect.
The MP of Yasothorn had repeatedly cast her vote against partisan resolutions over varied issues at parliament with last Friday’s surprise phenomenon in which she and the five other Thai Sang Thai renegades casting yea votes for the unrivalled Paetongtarn for head of a Pheu Thai-led coalition government.
The five other Thai Sang Thai MPs, namely Rampoon Tantiwanichanond of Ubon Ratchathani, Chatchawan Patyathai of Roi Et, Rang Thurapon of Udorn Thani, Adisak Kaeomungkhunsap of Udorn Thani and party-listed MP Thakorn Tanthasit, will likely follow suit of Supaporn by being ousted from the opposition party after they have been summoned for testimony before the Pokin panel following the event in which they ironically voted in support for Paetongtarn’s rise to power.
Thai Sang Thai leader Sudarat Keyuraphan has earlier publicly lambasted the six renegade MPs for the latest action which they had taken against the partisan resolution.
