THE PALANG PRACHARATH as a whole has been finally kicked out of the Pheu Thai-led coalition government though a number of renegade MPs of the troublesome party will practically remain on the coalition side.
Pheu Thai secretary-general Sorawong Thienthong confirmed today (Aug. 27) that the Palang Pracharath as a whole will no longer be part of the Pheu Thai-led coalition though 20-plus out of a total of 40 Palang Pracharath MPs under command of Palang Pracharath secretary-general Thammanat Prompao will continue to lend solid support for the new government under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Sorawong said most Pheu Thai MPs have found Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan to be “very uncooperative” to the Pheu Thai as core of the coalition and resolved to kick out the previously third largest coalition partner since Prawit had failed to cast yea votes of support either for former prime minister Srettha Thavisin or the current one Paetongtarn.
Thammanat who has obviously been at odds with Palang Pracharath leader Prawit will no longer be given a ministerial seat in the new cabinet lineup due to his previous personal conduct which could probably be deemed unethical.
Thammanat has earlier orchestrated a new round of revolt of 20-plus Palang Pracharath MPs against Prawit who had obviously locked horns with de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra, father of the woman prime minister.
The billionaire power player Thaksin had allegedly opted to quietly adopt Thammanat’s clique of 20-plus renegade MPs who will continue to support the Pheu Thai-led government whilst practically turning Prawit’s side into the opposition bloc.
Thammanat and his clique of 20-plus MPs are practically daring the Palang Pracharath executive board to oust them all as partisan members on grounds of rebellious acts so that they could quickly skip over to another party to maintain their MP status.
Meanwhile, Sorawong confirmed that moves on the part of the Pheu Thai were being made to bring Thammanat’s clique and Democrat MPs into the Pheu Thai-led coalition shortly to make up for lack of support from a dozen-plus MPs attached to Prawit.
Thammanat had earlier handed a list of three nominees for ministers in the Paetongtarn I cabinet, namely Klatham leader Narumon Pinyosinwat, his brother Akhara Prompao and Palang Pracharath MP Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn with his own name being nowhere on the roster.
Prawit had earlier submitted a list of four Palang Pracharath members all being the same ones who had worked for a previous government under deposed prime minister Srettha Thavisin, namely acting deputy prime minister-cum-natural resources & environment minister Patcharawat Wongsuwan, acting deputy public health minister Santi Prompat, the acting deputy agriculture & cooperatives minister Attakorn and the acting agriculture & cooperatives minister Thammanat.
Democrat leader Chalermchai Sri-on and Democrat secretary-general Det-it Khaothong will likely be given ministerial seats, given the event in which 21 out of a total 25 Democrat MPs are jumping onto the Pheu Thai bandwagon.
