One dead in truck driver’s wild ride through city centre

A DELIRIOUS knife-wielding truck driver’s wild ride up and down Rama IV road then to Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, led to a couple riding a motorcycle being seriously injured and the man having now died, Amarin TV said this evening (Sept. 4).

From 2 p.m. onwards four policemen riding two motorcycles chased the six-wheel truck without side panels from the front of Maleenont Building on Rama IV road to Phra Khanong intersection then back all the way to Khlong Toei intersection where it stopped at the red light.

One of the policemen climbed onto the truck and smashed the window to apprehend the driver but had to retreat upon being slashed. The other three policemen fired shots at the big vehicle’s tyres but it swerved and turned to Klong Toey port then onward to Bang Phil.

In doing so, the truck hit and damaged several cars that had stopped at the red light and had also knocked down a motorcycle taxi rider and his girlfriend with the former later dying in the hospital while the latter is in serious condition.

Police followed the truck from Klong Toey port to Bangna where the driver then abandoned the vehicle on the bank of the Bang Nam Chuet Canal in Bang Phli and jumped into it to escape but was later found hiding in a large drain pipe.

When police finally apprehended him they found that he had tried to commit suicide by strangling himself with a rope and was quickly rushed to the hospital.
