A FOREIGN man holidaying in Pattaya and high on marijuana stole a taxi and crashed it into a electricity pole before dawn today (Sep. 12), TV Channel 7 said.
At around 4 a.m. Pol. Lt. Phuttarak Sonkhamhan, deputy chief for investigation at Pattaya City police station’s Dongtan sub-station, was alerted that a foreigner had crashed his vehicle into a power pole on Thappraya road, cutting through Jomtien Second road, and got injured so quickly rushed there.
At the scene he found that a blue and yellow taxi had lost control and slammed into the power pole badly damaging the front of the vehicle.
Within was an unidentified foreign man, around 25 to 35 years old, only wearing boxer shorts and heavily intoxicated, he incoherently said that he had smoked marijuana.
Mr. Sarayut Panprasong, 37, the taxi driver, said he had stopped at a convenience store and went in leaving the engine on. While he was shopping he saw that the foreigner opened the cab’s door, got in and quickly drove away.
However he didn’t get very far before hitting the power pole. Fortunately some policemen were setting up an alcohol checkpoint nearby and were able to quickly get him out of the vehicle.
He was taken to Dongtan sub-station and charged with disorderly conduct with additional charges to be filed after he sobers up and gives a statement.
