A BABY boy was found abandoned on Jomtien Beach in Pattaya at dawn today (Oct. 5) by a beach umbrella operator and is now being well taken care of with police tracking down his parents, Naewna newspaper said.
At 6.39 a.m. Mr. Suchart Khunjeng, a Pattaya City councillor, was notified that a baby had been found near the entrance of Soi 10, Jomtien beach road, and alerted Pol. Lt. Phuttarak Sonkhamhan, deputy chief for Investigation, Pattaya City police station, and SM1 Sawet Phueamphun, head of Jomtien municipality, and all quickly went there.
When they arrived they found the cute baby boy, approximately three to four months old, who appears to be of mixed race ancestry, had been bathed and powdered by Ms. Malinee Suwachat, 37, who had found him crying and covered with sand on the beach. Found nearby were some diapers.
The baby appeared to be in good health but was crying because he was probably hungry.
Malinee said as she was preparing umbrellas and beach chairs to rent to tourists she heard a loud cry and when she rushed to the spot she found the baby lying on the side and dirty. He looks mixed race, Thai and either Indian or Myanmar ancestry, with there being a mark on his forehead as if he had undergone some kind of ceremony.
While it depressed her to find this baby she said he was very lucky to have not been bitten by a dog or ants.
Police took the baby to Dr. Wichai Thanasophon, director of Bang Lamung Hospital, for a health checkup after which relevant officials will be contacted to take care of him.
Police are also urgently investigating and tracking down his parents.
