GERMAN Ambassador to Thailand Dr. Ernst Reichel posted a photo on social media platform X of a meeting with former prime minister and de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra today (Oct. 9), Naewna newspaper said.
The accompanying message said, “”I felt honoured today to meet former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for a friendly and sincere conversation.”
During former prime minister Srettha Thavisin’s visit to Germany on March 13-14 this year where he held talks with German Chanchellor Olaf Scholz the two countries agreed to elevate relations to a strategic partnership, with Thailand confident that the bilateral cooperation will expand to cover regional cooperation with Asean and in the Indo-Pacific region.
Discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in clean energy and green transition, the EV and battery industries, sustainable agriculture, infrastructure development, and technology and knowledge transfer, as well as the exchanges of high-level visits.
They also discussed connectivity through Thailand’s “Landbridge” project, Thai – EU free trade agreement negotiations, and Schengen visa exemptions for ordinary Thai passport holders. Cooperation on regional and global issues, including climate change and global security, was raised for discussion, as well.
The Srettha affirmed Thailand’s commitment to supporting Germany’s investment in the manufacturing of conventional internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles.
