THE CENTRAL Investigation Bureau today (Oct. 14) received a complaint to investigate a hundred direct sales companies, both Thai and foreign, after The iCon Group landed in trouble as some investors have complained they have lost hundreds of thousands and up to millions of baht upon investing in the company, Amarin TV said today (Oct. 14).
In filing the complaint, Mr. Santhiya Sawasdee said these direct sales companies have to be investigated to determine whether they are operating according to the law and that he had information at least 35 of them employed similar practices as iCon Group, building a chain of subordinates to buy and resell its products, and causing similar damages.
He added that his family too had been cheated by a direct sales company and suffered hundreds of thousands of baht loss.
Those who suffered losses with a direct sales company, be it The iCon Group or any other, were urged to file a complaint at police stations nationwide.
They were also told to ask the National Audit Office to order all police stations to accept complaints of damages incurred from direct selling for all these companies with the iCon Group being the only exception because police are already doing so.
Santhiya added that The iCon Group case would definitely meet the criteria of being a special case of the Department of Special Investigation due to the cumulative amount of damages.
He urged all iCon Group victims to band together and fight the case till the end, with the legal process in three courts taking at least five years.
The iCon Group executives should also help the victims during the legal process because many of them are now completely destitute.
