THE exquisite Royal Barge Procession took place on the Chao Phraya River today (Oct. 27) to mark the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s Sixth-Cycle Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2024 with Their Majesties the King and Queen sailing in the ceremonial royal barge to Wat Arun Ratchawararam where they presented Kathin robes to the monks, Thai Rath and NNT said.
A total of 52 royal barges sailed in formation along a 4.2-kilometre stretch of the Chao Phraya River, starting from Wasukri Pier near Dusit Palace and making their way to Wat Arun Ratchawararam, passing under the Rama VIII Bridge and the Somdet Phra Pinklao Bridge.
Their Majesties the King and Queen were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha and Supreme Court President Ms. Chanakan Thiravejpolkul welcomed Their Majesties the King and Queen at Wasukri Pier.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Royal Thai Navy had established several spectator venues along the river, including a 4,000-seat area under the Rama VIII Bridge, a 1,500-seat venue at Santi Chai Prakan Park, a 1,130-seat venue at Thammasat University Tha Prachan Campus, a 1,100-seat venue at the 72nd Anniversary Queen Sirikit Park, and a 100-seat venue at Sathan Phimuk Garden inside Siriraj Hospital.
