MANY of over 20 victims of The iCon Group living in several countries have filed complaints against the company with the Consumer Protection Police Division after losing large sums of money in its direct sales business, Naewna newspaper said today (Oct. 27).
Mr. Itthidet Thanesawatana, a representative of this company’s victims, said this overseas group is spread across several countries including China, Hong Kong, Macau, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, UK, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Sweden, Luxembourg, Canada and US.
He added that most of the victims are Thais married to foreigners who had also invited others to invest in this company’s products with their damage totalling around 20 million baht.
Aside from bringing a Hong Kong victim to file a complaint today, he had also received power of attorney from victims in UK, Luxembourg, Estonia and Italy to act on their behalf.
The Hong Kong victim, Ms. Nin, said she saw an advertisement on social media so contacted The iCon Group and was invited to invest in its products. In addition she also saw several billboards along Thai expressways advertising this company.
Being convinced that this is a credible brand and as she was already selling Thai products in Kowloon, she placed orders for two batches of collagen Oct. last year totalling 500,000 baht. She also invited three Thai friends who like her were living in Hong Kong to likewise invest with this collectively totalling over 2 million baht.
Nin added that after she got the product she could not sell it because it was expensive and not popular among Hong Kong people with only Thais buying it. However when the company ran into trouble she was unable to get the goods from the company’s warehouse.
The legal action being taken against the company and its 18 executives including the founder Mr. Waranthaphon Wratyaworrakul, or Boss Paul, led to its products losing credibility thus increasing the damage and she now cannot get her investment back so decided to file a complaint against the company.
Police said so far 9,212 victims of this company have filed complaints after suffering over 2.839 billion baht damage.
