OVER a hundred fans and relatives of a popular Malaysian singer flocked to encourage her after she was arrested together with five others at a hotel in Su-ngai Kolok, Narathiwat, last Friday with 6,060 methamphetamine pills in their possession,TV Channel 7 and TV Channel 3 Plus News said today (Nov. 4).
As Pol. Lt. Col. Hafit Matasin, an investigation officer a Su-ngai Kolok police station, took Ms. Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Binti Wan Ismail, 28, to the court together with the other suspects the big crowd of her fans and relatives who had come across the border from Kelantan, Malaysia, milled around to support her with some of them even fainting at the staircase.
Her song, “Cinta Setandan Pisang”, which translates to “Take it Easy”, is a big hit among teenagers.
The other five suspects were identified as: Mr. Mohamad Alif Bin Deraman, 32; Mr. Mohd Affendi Bin Ahmad, 34; Ms. Nur Aida Binti Mamat, 32; Mr. Erdieka Bin Mohd Noor, 31; and Ms. Zuhaira Nasrin, 25.
Su-ngai Kolok police station mobilised over 50 special operations and crime suppression officers to control the crowd and coordinated with Su-ngai Kolok Rescue Foundation to provide first aid to those who had fainted.
This has turned out to be a major case in Malaysia with a number of Malaysian policemen in plain clothes having come across the border to observe the situation while the Malaysian media too sent teams to cover the case and take photos.
It was also reported that Malaysian police were trying to track down and arrest drug suspects who had come across the border to encourage the singer.
All six suspects have denied owning the seized meth pills but urine test showed they had all taken a drug.
Police are filing charges of possessing and distributing Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine) and illegally consuming it.
Two of the six suspects, Erdieka Bin Mohd Noor and Zuhaira Nasrin, face an additional charge of entering and residing in Thailand without permission with their passports not being stamped by immigration police in either country.
