PHEU THAI Party declared victory in the hotly-contested local election in Udon Thai today (Nov. 24) with People’s Party conceding defeat, Naewna newspaper said.
Unofficial result at 9.07 p.m. of the election for Nayok Or Bor Jor or head of the Udon Thani provincial administration showed Pheu Thai candidate, Mr. Saravut Petpanomporn, number two, received 283,186 votes while People’s candidate, Mr. Khanisorn Khurirang, number one, got 235,060 votes – a gap of more than 50,000 votes.
Mr. Prasert Chantararuangthong, a core Pheu Thai member said at Saravut’s residence that Udon Thai remained the Red Shirt capital and a Pheu Thai stronghold with this ensuring victory.
Kanisorn thanked all those who voted for People’s Party with this being a considerable total but not enough to win the race.
In Phetchaburi with 99.99% of the votes counted from eight districts, totaling 734 polling stations, Mr. Chaiya Angkinan, number one, former PAO chairman for many terms, raked in 169,208 votes, easily defeating Mr. Kritsana Kaewyu, former Phetchaburi MP and president of the Phetchaburi Provincial Lawyers Council, number two, who got 57,574 votes.
In Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ms. Warin Chinwong, number two, from the Nakhon Khem Kaeng team, received 323,798 votes, defeating Ms. Kanokporn Dechdecho, number one, a former PAO chairman and a member of a prominent local family, who got 290,583 votes.
