Female tourist who died in Khao San road hotel fire had just got engaged

 

A YOUNG Brazilian woman who was among three persons who died in the fire at a six-storey hotel in Khao San road area last night (Dec. 29) had just got engaged last week after her boyfriend popped the question, Amarin TV said this afternoon.

Aside from the Brazilian woman who tragically died after getting engaged and was burned to death in the inferno, the other two were foreign men whose names and nationalities still remain unknown. One was taken to Samitivej Hospital Chinatown and the other Vijara Hospital but both succumbed to their injuries.

Seven others of a total of 75 guests at this hotel were injured with two being Thais and five foreigners.

Official confirmation of the names and nationalities of the three deceased victims is still pending but the authorities had found out that the Brazilian woman who died had just got a proposal from her boyfriend last week before travelling to Thailand.

The fire broke out in room number 511 on the fifth floor of this hotel at 9.21 p.m. with this room being completely destroyed. The complete destruction of the room makes it difficult to work out the cause of the blaze, Thai Rath newspaper and PPTVHD36 said.

Many guests were trapped in the hotel and officials had to work all night to evacuate and give them assistance.

Some details of the seven hotel guests who got injured in the fire are as follows

– A Japanese man, name and age unknown. He suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to Phraram Nine Hospital;

– A foreign woman, name and age unknown. She was found unconscious at the scene and is now being treated at Klang Hospital;

– A Thai man, name and age unknown. He suffered from smoke inhalation and was given first aid but refused to go to the hospital;

– A Thai man, around 34 years old. He suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to  Hua Chiew Hospital;

– A German man, approximately 34 years old. His hands were burnt and he was taken to  Thonburi Bamrung Muang Hospital;

– A German woman, approximately 32 years old. She jumped from a high floor and injured her back as well as suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital;

–  A Chinese man, name and age unknown. He was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to Hua Chiew Hospital.
