DEMONSTRATORS rallied at Oct. 14 Memorial today (Jan.11) to pressure the Police Hospital to answer the Medical Council’s letter inquiring about the medical treatment de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra underwent there, Naewna newspaper said.
Mr. Phichit Chaiyamongkol, leader of Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand, said his group’s movement, entitled “The Shinawatra Regime, Stop – MOU44, Stop – Casino” is being held today as it marks the first anniversary of its rally last year.
There will be activities the whole of this month, possibly alternate Saturdays, or when political issues arise.
On Monday Jan. 13 the group will submit a letter to the police to inquire about the Medical Council’s letter to the Police Hospital last December asking for the medical records of Thaksin’s six-month stay at the hospital in an alleged, successful conspiracy to keep himself from being literally put behind bars at a prison to otherwise serve his curtailed, one-year jail sentence for power abuses perpetrated during his previous premiership.
In addition on Wednesday Jan. 15, the due date for replying to the Medical Council’s special investigation committee’s request, the group will gather there to encourage the panel to stand firm on this action.
Should the Police Hospital not send the medical records, in the following weeks the group will go to the Government House when there is a cabinet meeting to demand that they do so, Pairoj said.
Nonetheless he did say that street protests were not planned with most of its current activities being going to various agencies to get answers.
The Medical Council set Jan. 15 as the deadline and if the Police Hospital does not send the documents by then the group will go to the Government House to ask the government some questions, he added.
