Torrential rain forces PM to skip visiting Pattani and only go to Yala, Narathiwat

PRIME Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s visit to the three southernmost provinces today (Jan. 16) had to change because torrential rain pounding Pattani made it impossible for her to go there so she is now only visiting Yala and Narathiwat, TV Channel 7 said.

The Prime Minister held a meeting with some ministers and senior officials during her flight to the South with Justice Minister Thawee Sodsong saying that the trip to Pattani had to be cancelled because continuous heavy rain made it difficult to fly there by helicopter.

Paetongtarn also practiced greeting the local people in Malay language saying “May peace be with you” to express her sincerity in meeting them.

She had been scheduled to chair a meeting in Pattani to follow up on the progress of development work in southern border provinces. It was also planned for her to check a project to dredge and maintain Pattani canal, inspect boat mooring facilities, provide soft loans to business operators in all three southernmost provinces and hold talks with Pattani fishing industry leaders.
