Thaksin puts off Yingluck’s return to Thailand

DE FACTO Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra said today (Feb. 9) his sister/former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s return to Thailand to mark Songkran festival here this year as anticipated hinges on appropriateness, Naewna newspaper said.

Asked what factors are preventing her return, Thaksin replied that there are many factors involved.

Asked whether she would return this year, Thaksin said he was considering it and in fact she wanted to fly back yesterday.

Yingluck had been earlier found guilty of duty negligence charges for mishandling the rice subsidy programme and sentenced by court to five-year imprisonment after her government’s ousting in a 2014 military coup. She has been living overseas for over six years to avoid jail.
