Chinese capitalists gradually removing daily-rental condo keycard boxes

AFTER a netizen highlighted that there are boxes installed throughout the city holding keycards to condos illegally rented out on daily basis, Amarin TV news team found out that the Chinese capitalists running this business have steadily removed many of them.

Drama-addict Facebook page had posted photos of some cabinets holding combination lock boxes with each holding a keycard to nearby condos causing trouble for other residents in these buildings.

Local people revealed that there are foreigners, both Chinese and Westerners, coming to pick up keycards every day.

This TV station’s news team went down Sukhumvit Soi 42,  Soi Barbos 2, where they found cabinets holding keycard boxes as seen in photos had already been removed with just the steel frame remaining.

Just then they saw someone opening the door to the building where they had been installed. The news team knocked at the door but a man and a woman within refused to talk to them. The woman could not speak Thai while the man had earphones on and turned his back to them.

They then went to a garage at the entrance of Wat Wisanu, Soi Charoen Rat 3, Thung Wat Don subdistrict, Sathorn district. There were two cabinets installed there and within were around a hundred keycard boxes for illegal daily rental of nearby condos.

The garage owner told them that the cabinets were installed about a year ago for rental of 5,000 baht a month with the man who put them up able to speak Thai. He said that people would be coming to take things from the cabinet but he did not know what was inside.

Every month someone from a condo came to pay him the rent and everyday around 10 people, Thais and foreigners, mainly Chinese and Westerners, came to open the boxes within but he could not do so as he did not have the combinations.

He added that he did not previously know renting out condos on a daily basis is illegal and did not put the cabinets in a secluded place. But as news about this has spread the owner will probably soon come and remove them.

The news team spoke to Mr. Chang (assumed name), who lives in this area, who revealed that he has seen foreigners, particularly Chinese, coming to look for the cabinets hiding the keycards everyday. Some of them even asked him where they are hidden.

These foreigners likely communicated with the condo owner via Line application and were given the combination of one of the boxes to open and take the keycard to the unit they rented, he said.
