THE Commerce Ministry today (Feb. 27) reduced steps in the export of Thai wooden products, except for Siamese Rosewood (phayung), with entrepreneurs no longer having to obtain a permit to do so in a move to boost competitiveness in the world market, TV Channel 7 said.
Ms. Arada Fuangthong, director-general of the Department of Foreign Trade, said a revision had been made to an announcement issued last year on the export of wooden products with Siamese Rosewood being prohibited while logs, processed wood and some trees grown to a certain size then dug up for replanting for landscaping require a permit to export but this does not apply to charcoal with the revision effective Feb. 25, 2025 onwards.
The cancellation of the requirement to get permit to export these wooden products, except for Siamese Rosewood, will greatly reduce complicated steps and costs for Thai wood traders. They would now be able to export them more conveniently and quickly thus increasing the value of Thai export trade.
Those who want to export Thai wooden products are urged to study and correctly understand the terms and conditions to prevent problems from arising. For more details read the announcement at the department’s website or call 1385 or reach the General Trade Administration Division at 0 2547 4803.
