Far-South insurgents ambush defence volunteers killing two of them

INSURGENTS in the three southern border provinces ambushed defence volunteers twice overnight (Apr. 27-28) killing two of them and seriously injuring a third official and also set a vehicle ablaze, TV Channel 7 said this morning.

The first incident occurred at around 10.11 p.m. in Yarang district of Pattani when an unknown number of insurgents shot at a white sedan defence volunteers of this district were travelling in resulting in the death of Mr. Usama Chijai at the scene while Mr. Mosodiq Keera was seriously injured and taken to Yala Hospital.

The second incident occurred soon after midnight from 00.30 a.m. to 00.40 a.m. when an unknown number of assailants shot dead Mr. M.O. Thirawut Phuttarat, a defence volunteer in Taling Chan subdistrict, Bannang Sata district, Yala province.

They then attacked the sub-district protection unit base before setting fire to the deceased defence volunteer’s private car, completely destroying it.

However, police and military officers as well as local government officials have thoroughly investigated the ambush sites and are currently collecting evidence to track down the perpetrators and prosecute them according to the law.
