Martial law enforce in Chanthaburi, border checkpoints temporarily shut

MARTIAL law has been enforced in Chanthaburi with Ban Laem and Ban Pakkat permanent border checkpoints closed to Thai and Cambodian tourists but Cambodian workers working in Thailand may still continue using it, Amarin TV said this afternoon (June 7).

Capt. Commander Noppharot Siripariyapong, commander of Chanthaburi Marine Corps Task Force, signed a letter sent to Chanthaburi’s Immigration Police Chief to temporarily halt Thai and Cambodian tourists from using the two border checkpoints because a threatening situation arising from Cambodia could make it unsafe for them.

The announcement said that in enforcing martial law, this specifically applies to Khlung, Pong Nam Ron and Soi Dao districts, and it is effective until further notice.

Section 6 of the Martial Law Act 2004 states that military officers have authority over civilian officials regarding tactics, suppression and maintenance of peace and order, and that civilian officials must comply with their orders.

Civil servants of all ministries, departments and agencies were requested to continue performing their duties in accordance with the regulations of the government as they have always been doing.
