PEOPLE’S LEADER Nattapong Ruangpanyawut criticised what Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said in a leaked audio clip of her recent telephone conversation with former Cambodian prime minister and current Senate President Hun Sen pointing out that a Thai leader should not say the army is an opposition camp while calling for dissolution of House of Representatives and returning the power to the people, Thai Rath newspaper said today (June 18).
A Thai leader should not in communicating with the leaders of neighbouring countries say that the Thai army is an opposition camp of both Thai and Cambodian governments, he added.
While he does not want any party to seize the opportunity to give the army power over an elected government, including bringing about political change through undemocratic means, this leaked conversation has completely destroyed people’s confidence and trust in their Prime Minister.
“If the Prime Minister cannot restore the confidence and trust of the Thai people as soon as possible, I would like to call on Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, to take political responsibility according to the democratic system by dissolving the House of Representatives to return power to the people and to prevent some groups from using Ms. Paethongtarn’s mistake to escalate a situation that is not beneficial to our democracy.”
