A SWEDISH man who was heavily intoxicated and fell asleep on the road in front of a Pattaya entertainment venue got hit on his head by a car that drove there to pick up a passenger in the wee hours of this morning (June 20), TV Channel 7 said.
Pol. Lt. Wuttinan Kongdee, an investigation officer at Pattaya City police station, quickly sent Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescuers and an emergency medical team from Pattaya City Hospital to help the Swedish man, only identified as Mr. Paul, 54, after he got severely injured upon being hit on the head by an incoming car.
He was given first aid and then rushed to this hospital.
Mr. Phonlawat, 38, told police that he works as a ride-hailing driver and came to pick up a customer at this entertainment venue in South Pattaya. Upon arriving then parking in front of the venue he hit the victim on his head because he did not see him sleeping there.
A CCTV camera right in front of the venue showed the victim lying on the road at 3.12 a.m.. The victim’s girlfriend and some staff tried to get him off the road because cars were driving by all the time but he refused to move. At 3.20 a.m. Phonlawat’s car drove in and the tragic accident occurred.
The police are currently collecting evidence, examining additional CCTV footage and questioning eyewitnesses in proceeding with legal action.
