Cambodian woman saved from committing suicide with young daughter

A CAMBODIAN woman unhappily married to a Thai man was saved by some soldiers from drowning along with her four-year-old daughter in a large reservoir at Nakhon Nayok province, TV Channel 7 said today (Aug. 22).

At around 6 p.m. yesterday the good Samaritans who were cycling around this reservoir, later identified as Col. Tuangporn Srichai, Gp.Capt. Lawan Jitngam, Lt. Konthaphong Kalaphakdi and CPO1 Ong-at Buaphen, all from the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School in this province, rushed to save both mother and daughter and successfully got them back to the shore.

Upon being questioned, the distressed woman said she is a Cambodian and has a job working as a housekeeper at a well-known resort while her husband worked as a janitor at an elementary school.

They have been together for some time and have two daughters but there were numerous problems in the family and they argued frequently which led to her getting stressed.

She then decided to commit suicide along with her four-year-old daughter but they intervened and saved them just in time.

Pol. Col. Theerapat Banditohiranchot, superintendent of the Nakhon Nayok Provincial Police Investigation Division, was informed of the incident and immediately brought snacks for the two of them to eat and encouraged the mother to continue living for the sake of both her children.

This kindness helped the Cambodian woman let go of suicidal thoughts and move on with her life.
