Police start investigating two doctors for helping Thaksin

A POLICE fact-finding committee has started investigating two doctors suspended for assisting de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra stay for six months in a Police Hospital suite instead of prison to serve out a curtailed one-year jail term until he was released on parole early last year, TV Channel 7 said this evening (Sep.11).

The two doctors treating the mega-billionaire power player, Pol. Lt. Gen. Dr. Sophonrat Singhajaru and Pol. Lt. Gen. Dr Taweesilp Wechawitarn,  had their medical licences withheld at the order of the Medical Council for having compromised medical ethics by giving falsified information about his health conditions only to do him undue favours whilst one other was formally warned for compromising his medical profession.

Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelbutr, police inspector-general, said the investigation of these two doctors as ordered by National Police chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet had already started.

Asked by reporters why this investigation is being undertaken as the Medical Council has already punished the two doctors while the National Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating those who helped Thaksin bypass jail and stay in the hospital instead, Pol. Gen. Thatchai replied that the decision on whether there is sufficient grounds to pursue an administrative action rested with his superiors.

The head of the probe panel is Pol. Lt. Gen. Thanapol Srisopa, deputy police inspector-general.

The Supreme Court judges in charge of criminal lawsuits against persons in political positions on Monday (Sep. 9) passed a verdict returning de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra to jail and serve out the one-year sentence he had received on charges of perpetrating a few counts of misconduct during his previous premiership a couple of decades ago which had been curtailed from eight to one year under a royal decree,
