THAILAND has installed the first electronic surveillance pole at Ban Klong Luek checkpoint in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo province, Amarin TV and Naewna newspaper said this morning (Sep. 19).
Gen. Ukrit Boontanon, deputy army chief, said putting up E-poles as a “virtual wall” along the border requires caution but is necessary in some areas where a barbed wire fence cannot be rolled out.
They can only be installed at points where there are agreed-upon boundary markers with two to three of these E-poles coming up Ban Klong Luek checkpoint.
This first E-pole is equipped with three cameras: one PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) and two fixed. Additionally, lighting and solar cell systems have been installed to support continuous operation. A 512GB data storage card, capable of recording images for up to 30 days, is also in place.
During the installation, the 12th Ranger Company proceeded to cut down overgrown trees in the area opposite the wall to ensure clear visibility by the cameras. There has been coordination with Mobile Development Unit 12 which plans to further improve the area.
