A FORMER deputy director of Phuket Airport was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport upon arrival from overseas on charges of corruption in mishandling garden decoration contracts for Thailand’s main airport worth 7.1 million baht, TV Channel 7 said today (Sep. 26).
A National Anti-Corruption Commission and Immigration Bureau 2 team apprehended Mr. Manas (surname withheld), Phuket Airport’s former executive, as soon as his flight from Kansai International Airport, Japan, arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
An arrest warrant had been issued by Region 1 Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct on Sep. 17, 2025 on charges of “being an official who improperly performs or neglects to perform his duties, resulting in damage to another person, or who corruptly performs or neglects to perform his duties,” and “being an official in a government agency who commits an offence or intends to prevent fair price competition in order to favour any bidder.”
During his tenure as director of the Mechanical Division, Electrical and Mechanical Department, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Manas was appointed to a special procurement committee to select contractors for interior decoration and maintenance of decorative plants within Concourses C, E, F, and G, 4th Floor, Suvarnabhumi Airport, for a budget of 7,189,105.80 baht.
However, he facilitated the selection of unqualified juristic persons, resulting in Airports of Thailand Plc losing out on fair price competition.
The suspect was taken to Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station to record his arrest and was then transferred to the Office of the Attorney-General for prosecution.
