A FISHMERMAN whose trawler sank was rescued after spending eight days floating in stormy seas clinging onto a tank lid, TV Channel 7 said this morning (Nov. 1).
On Oct. 24 Mr. Yutthana (surname withheld), 58, took his trawler, Chok Neung, out to sea alone from Rayong City’s Phe subdistrict to catch squid near Kaeng Hin Phloeng, approximately 28km offshore from Klaeng district’s Kram subdistrict.
He later called his wife Ms. Supattra that the trawler’s engine had malfunctioned but after that she was unable to contact him.
She quickly asked the Thai navy’s Marine Department to help search for him. However neither the navy’s patrol boats nor other trawlers were able to find him in the waters at Kaeng Hin Phloeng.
Supattra then reported her husband as missing at Phe police station.
Miraculously last evening Supattra was informed that another trawler had found her husband floating in the sea off Prachuab Kriri Khan province, precariously clinging onto a tank lid. The crew quickly rescued him and he is now safe, eating and drinking normally and in good health.
