THERE is severe traffic congestion on three roads in Nonthaburi province which got flooded after Chao Phraya Dam gradually increased its discharge rate from 2,750 to 2,800 cubic metres per second from 10 a.m. onwards today (Nov. 9), PPTVHD36 quoted Khao Khon Non news outlet as saying on Facebook.
Soon after the dam increased its discharge floodwaters flowed under Rama V bridge on Nakhon In road in Nonthaburi city district, with this occurring when Chao Phraya river was already very high as the tides were turning. Officials had to close the U-turn under the bridge and direct road users to make the turn elsewhere.
By 11. 40 a.m. floodwaters spread across Nakhon In road inbound from Bang Si Thong intersection to Rama V bridge then further to Makro area causing heavy traffic jams to likewise stretch further down the road.
Mr. Somnuk Thanadechakul, mayor of Nonthaburi municipality, along with his team, went to a Nonthaburi embankment to inspect water rising in the Chao Phraya River, which had overflowed several areas.
Officials are now placing more sandbags as additional protection while running pumps at full capacity all 24 hours to drain out the floodwaters.
